A forest fire broke out on La Palma, the fifth largest island of the Canary Islands in Spain. The head of the Autonomous Administration of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, announced that 140 hectares of land was destroyed, at least 11 houses were burned and 500 people were evacuated. Four helicopters and four firefighters were dispatched to the area.
Authorities on the island also requested assistance on the Canary Islands’ islands of Gomera and Tenerife.
