Forest fires have broken out in five different locations in the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca. According to a statement from the Oaxaca State Forestry Commission, the fires are still active despite the intervention of 13 firefighters and 1 helicopter. The fires started last Friday in the Selva de los Chimalapas forest region of Oaxaca, and have so far destroyed 400 hectares of forest area. While there have been no reports of deaths or injuries, many animals have perished and agricultural lands have been damaged.
