Brian McGinnis, a former U.S. Marine and Green Party Senate candidate, was injured and arrested Wednesday after disrupting a Senate Armed Services Subcommittee hearing to protest military actions against Iran.
During the hearing, McGinnis stood and shouted, “No one wants to fight for Israel!” As Capitol Police attempted to remove him, a violent struggle ensued. Republican Senator Tim Sheehy, a former Navy SEAL, left his seat to assist officers in physically ejecting McGinnis from the room.
In the scuffle, McGinnis’s arm became trapped in the chamber door, resulting in a fracture. While McGinnis’s campaign manager alleged he was assaulted, Capitol Police stated he “put everyone in a dangerous position by violently resisting.” McGinnis now faces charges including assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.
