A shark approximately 2 meters long attacked four people off a public beach in the South Padre region of the US state of Texas, which was very crowded due to Independence Day. Coast guard units arrived at the scene and evacuated the citizens at sea with helicopters and boats. Two heavily injured casualties were hospitalized.
South Padre Governor Patrick McNulty stated that sharks were rarely seen in the area where the last attack took place 5 years ago.
