Thousands of people took to the streets in various parts of France, particularly in the capital city of Paris, in response to a retirement law announced by Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne. The law states that the retirement age will be increased to 64 by 2030. Over 200 protests were held, with participation from railway and public sector workers, as well as citizens in cities such as Nantes, Lyon, Bordeaux, Marseille and Toulouse. Public transportation and some schools were affected by the protests.
Under the new law, the retirement age will be gradually increased by 3 months each year starting in September, with the requirement to have worked for 43 years in order to retire.
