France seized an oil tanker in the Mediterranean, saying it was part of Russia’s so-called shadow fleet used to bypass sanctions. French forces, supported by the United Kingdom navy, boarded the tanker Grinch between Spain and Morocco and altered its course. President Emmanuel Macron said the vessel was suspected of sailing under a false flag and helping finance Russia’s war in Ukraine. London said the Royal Navy was tracking the tanker through the Strait of Gibraltar as part of wider efforts to curb sanctioned Russian oil exports.
