Marine Le Pen, a leading figure in the National Rally (RN) party in France, was found guilty of embezzling European Union (EU) funds that were supposed to be paid to party employees and was sentenced to four years in prison with two years suspended and a fine of 100,000 euros.
The court also imposed a 5-year political ban on Le Pen, which means she will not be able to run in the 2027 presidential elections.
Le Pen, who was President Emmanuel Macron’s main rival in the previous elections, had previously accused prosecutors of seeking her “political death.”
