Fuel Crisis Sparks Chaos Across Thailand

Following a recent surge in fuel prices, drivers in Bangkok, Thailand, and surrounding areas faced kilometer-long queues at local gas stations. The sudden supply shortages have severely disrupted the transportation sector, forcing approximately half of the taxis registered at the capital’s main airport to temporarily cease operations. The ongoing crisis is also taking a heavy toll on the country’s agricultural and fishing industries, with boats unable to leave ports due to soaring operational costs. Despite government pledges to provide producer subsidies, international organizations warn that the worsening situation poses a serious risk to global food systems and could drive worldwide food insecurity to “record levels.”
