Nineteen died and 32 injured in a fire that broke out after a fuel tanker exploded in the Salang Tunnel at the summit of Hindu Kush Mountains in Afghanistan’s Parwan province. Parwan Governorate Spokesperson Hikmetullah Shamim stated that the death toll can increase.
On the other hand, Afghanistan Health Minister Qalandar Ibad announced that the injured casualties were transferred to hospitals and that people trapped in the tunnel were rescued.
Commander Mawlawi Abdulghafoor, who help those trapped in the tunnel with about 50 soldiers, said “The tunnel roof collapsed as well. We were able to get within 100 meters of the scene and removed 18 injured. With the help of other units in the region, we sent the injured to hospitals. We are now 200 meters from the scene and will continue to help.”
