Ambassador Akgün stated, “For the past nine years, the fight against FETÖ has been one of our state’s main priorities,” highlighting that the resistance against the 2016 coup attempt remains a defining moment in modern Turkish history.
He praised the Turkish people’s sacrifice in defeating the coup and remembered Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s immediate condemnation of the attempt, calling it a “blow to Turkish democracy.”
Akgün noted that despite the death of FETÖ leader Fetullah Gülen in the US in 2024, “We will continue our struggle with determination until this dark organization is completely eliminated.”
