Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, where Israel has been carrying out air, land, and sea attacks for nearly 5 months and has blocked the entrance of all kinds of aid, began to consume wild plants as food.
“People selling herbs just want to make an income. We have no source of income. People want to feed their children,” said Ahmed Fayyad, a pharmacy student who sells herbs.
Another seller, Abu Ali, said that herbs are currently the cheapest thing on the market and are widely available because they grow on their own.
According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), one-fourth of the population in the Gaza Strip is on the verge of famine.
