Heavy rain that began yesterday evening triggered severe floods in the cities of Marneuli and Bolnisi in the Kvemo Kartli region of Georgia. As a result of the Algeti river overflowing a marketplace with hundreds of shops was flooded, and dozens of locals were trapped in their homes in the city of Marneuli. Shopkeepers said that at least 3 million laris of damage occurred. Meanwhile, the rising waters caused power cuts across the Kvemo Kartli. In Bolnisi, another city hit by floods, the bridges connecting the villages to the city center collapsed, heavily damaging croplands.
