Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that all border crossings with Belarus will be closed starting this week as Russia and Belarus launch their “Zapad” military exercises on September 12 near the Polish frontier.

Tusk said the drills pose “serious security risks” and confirmed that Polish and allied forces will hold parallel exercises on Polish territory. He cited rising provocations from Moscow and Minsk.

Belarus condemned the move, summoning Poland’s envoy in Minsk and accusing Warsaw of disrupting cross-border movement and abusing its position on the EU’s external frontier.
