Germany’s Federal Security Council has approved Türkiye’s request for 40 Eurofighter fighter jets. The decision, made after a March 2023 meeting, paves the way for the jets’ delivery, with parts supplied by Germany and assembly in the UK. Turkish President Erdoğan, British officials, and Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis were informed of the approval.
The Eurofighter sale, involving Germany, the UK, Italy, and Spain, requires approval from all four nations for exports to third countries. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz expressed optimism about the export permit, highlighting positive progress in discussions.
