The fight against forest fires in the city of Alexandroupoli in northeast Greece continues on its third day. Although the flames were partially brought under control in Apalos and Avantas, the fires could not be brought under control yet in Nipsa, Doriko and the region between Amfitriti and Maestros, where the flames intensified. According to the statement of local authorities, nine firefighters were affected by the smoke and were hospitalized. Some houses became unusable, and 13 villages were evacuated as a precaution. Authorities have warned of fires around the capital Athens.
