Hagia Sophia Restoration Progresses to Second Phase

The restoration of the Hagia Sophia Grand Mosque continues, with significant progress made in returning its historic structures to their original state. In the first phase, the restoration of the tombs, primary school, and ‘muvakkithane’ has been completed.

As part of the second phase, the Bayezid II Minaret is being reinforced and reconstructed, while scaffolding has been erected on the mosque’s eastern facade. Civil engineer Keriman Dursun stated, “The removal of deteriorated plaster will take about a month. Restoration will proceed in line with the original composition before the scaffolding is dismantled.”

The 1,500-year-old Hagia Sophia, a UNESCO World Heritage site, continues to draw attention as aerial views reveal its grandeur amidst ongoing restoration efforts.
