Italians entered a strict lockdown as of today as Covid-19 cases increase. Almost 42 million people will under lockdown in 20 regions for two weeks. Lombardy, Lazio, Veneto, Puglia, Campania, Marche, Emilia-Romagna, Piemonte, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Molise regions and Trento city were designated “red zones”. In these regions schools, shops, restaurants and museums were closed. In “orange zones” people will not be able to leave their region except for work or health reasons.
Italy registered almost 27,000 new Covid-19 infections, bringing the total number of cases to 3,223,142. A total of 380 more fatalities were reported over the past day, raising the death toll to 102,145.
