The restoration of Haydarpaşa Train Station, an iconic legacy, remains unfinished since the 2010 fire. Despite 13 years passing, the historic landmark in Istanbul, started in 1873 and opened in 1908, still awaits completion. Historian Zafer Bilgi emphasized the need to preserve such sites, citing neglect leading to recent fire incidents.
Once pivotal for the Hejaz railway and pilgrimage journeys, the station symbolizes historic connections between Istanbul and the Kaaba. Built by renowned German architects on a 4,000-square-meter area, it holds neoclassical design elements and served vital roles during the Ottoman era and War of Independence. Though restoration began in 2016 after the devastating fire, the station remains closed, with ongoing external refurbishments visible from aerial views.
