Australia’s most populous state of New South Wales (NSW) has been experiencing extreme weather conditions as record rainfall is triggering burst riverbanks, dam spillover, roadblocks and evacuations.
Fire and rescue teams rescued more than a hundred people in the past 30 hours. Evacuation orders have been issued for more than 4,000 people in NSW.
The severe weather condition also affected the delivery of the COVID-19 vaccines in Sydney and across multiple regional NSW locations.

A ferry traveling from Java to Bali sank off Indonesia’s coast, killing at least 4 people, with 31 still missing and 30 rescued. The “KMP Tunu Pratama Jaya” ferry capsized around 12:50 AM local time. Videos shared by passengers showed the vessel taking on water before sinking. Authorities confirmed 65 people were on board, including 12 crew. Search efforts are ongoing with support from rescue ships and rubber boats. Maritime accidents are common in Indonesia due to poor safety standards and rough weather during the monsoon season.
