Heavy Rains Kill 18 in Southern Thailand

Weeks of monsoon rains in southern Thailand have triggered severe floods and landslides, killing 18 people and injuring 12. Thailand’s Disaster Prevention and Management Department said nearly 2 million people across 10 provinces have been affected. Songkhla Province, the hardest hit, has been declared a disaster area as evacuations and army-led rescue efforts continue. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul announced emergency aid of 9,000 baht per household.

In neighboring Vietnam, the death toll from recent floods and landslides has risen to 91, with material losses exceeding 500 million dollars.
