Heavy rains in southern France caused widespread flooding, damaging dozens of vehicles and leaving hundreds of homes without power. A red flood alert was issued in Lyon and six nearby regions, later downgraded to orange as water levels began to recede. Up to 700 millimeters of rain fell in some areas, more than Paris receives in a year, according to Ecological Transition Minister Agnes Pannier-Runacher. Rescue efforts included 1,500 firefighters and five helicopters. Train services were halted, and over 500 homes in the Ardeche region remain without electricity.
