Hezbollah Supporters Attack UN Officials during Protest in Lebanon

Hezbollah supporters, who took to the streets to protest Lebanon’s refusal to allow an Iranian plane to land in Beirut and clashed with the Lebanese army near Rafik Hariri International Airport, set fire to vehicles belonging to the United Nations Interim Peace Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and attacked UNIFIL officials.

Lebanese security sources reported that at least one UNIFIL official was injured by the Hezbollah supporters.

Following the incident, the Lebanese army warned the public not to continue actions that would cause internal unrest at the critical stage the country is in.

According to local media reports, a plane belonging to Iran’s Mahan Airlines, which was scheduled to take off from Tehran at 14:30 local time and arrive in Beirut, was not given the necessary permission to land and therefore the flight was cancelled, leaving dozens of Lebanese passengers stranded in Tehran.
