Germany’s 2025 Homelessness Report revealed around 531,600 homeless people nationwide, despite the National Action Plan Against Homelessness launched in 2024. Official data show that 50,000 people live on the streets, while others rely on shelters or friends. Rising rents, lack of affordable housing, economic difficulties, and the refugee crisis are cited as key causes. In Berlin alone, up to 10,000 people are estimated to live on the streets. The government aims to tackle the crisis by 2030 through increased funding for social housing and expanded support programs.
