Hungarian Author László Krasznahorkai Wins 2025 Nobel Prize in Literature

Hungarian novelist László Krasznahorkai has been awarded the 2025 Nobel Prize in Literature for his “compelling and visionary oeuvre that, in the midst of apocalyptic terror, reaffirms the power of art,” the Swedish Academy announced. The 71-year-old writer was praised as “a great epic writer in the Central European tradition that extends through Kafka to Thomas Bernhard.”

Krasznahorkai gained international recognition with his debut novel Satantango, later adapted into a film by director Béla Tarr. Known for his long, flowing sentences and dark, philosophical tone, Krasznahorkai is often described as a postmodern master whose works explore absurdity and despair.
