Hungarian PM Orban Explains Content of 5th European Political Community Summit

Giving an opening speech at the 5th European Political Community Summit, hosted by Hungary, Viktor Orban, the Prime Minister of Hungary, explained that the plenary session of the summit would focus on Europe’s security issues, while migration and economic security issues would be discussed in the interim sessions later on.

The Hungary leader emphasized in his speech that Europe is facing a very dangerous perspective due to military and economic security threats and said, “This situation raises questions about the foundations of the European model. European peace and stability are at risk.”

He also said that the problem of migration flows to Europe has become unprecedented and said the following: “We need better and more practical cooperation with transit and origin countries to eliminate human traffickers. We need to better support countries of origin and transit countries. We need to determine whether we are ready to evaluate asylum applications in safe third countries and to see whether we are ready to establish centers. I believe that there is a new momentum in Europe on this issue.”
