Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said corruption “at the highest levels” of Ukraine’s government should prompt the EU to stop all financial payments immediately. Speaking ahead of an EU foreign ministers’ meeting in Brussels, he criticized the European Commission’s push for an additional €100 billion in support for Kyiv, calling it “insane.”
Szijjarto said Ukraine must face a full financial audit before receiving more aid. His comments follow the dismissal of two Ukrainian ministers in a major corruption probe.
EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said any peace plan for Ukraine must be approved by both Ukrainians and Europeans, and reiterated that peace must be “just and lasting.”
