Wildfires on Maui Island, part of Hawaii’s archipelago, have rapidly spread, exacerbated by Hurricane Dora. The emergency has been declared, with firefighters struggling due to adverse conditions, and many roads blocked by the hurricane’s aftermath. Around 1,100 acres in Maui’s Kula area have been burned, two homes destroyed, and 13,000 homes are without electricity. The region’s atmospheric conditions suggest the fires could escalate further.

The statue, depicting her waving during Donald Trump’s 2017 inauguration, was cut off at the ankles. Police launched an investigation after a tip-off on May 13.
An earlier wooden version of the statue was destroyed by arson in 2020. The current bronze replica, built by US artist Brad Downey, replaced it on a concrete base. Despite her local fame, Melania has never returned to her hometown since leaving Slovenia in the 1990s to pursue a modeling career in the US.
