Cyclone Freddy kills 4 in Madagascar

Severe flooding occurred in southeastern Madagascar as a result of the heavy rains triggered by Cyclone Freddy, which reached land at a speed of 180 kilometers per hour. Four people died, and 11,477 people left their homes, according to the government’s National Risk and Disaster Office. The office also reported that 2,276 houses were flooded, and more than 2,260 houses were destroyed or damaged in total.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said the cyclone would hit Mozambique and Zimbabwe after Madagascar and could affect more than 3.3 million people.
