Hurricane Helene Death Toll Rises to 214 Across Six US States

 

The death toll from Hurricane Helene, which struck Florida as a Category 4 storm last week, has reached 214 across six states. North Carolina was hit hardest, with 108 fatalities, followed by South Carolina (41), Georgia (33), Florida (19), Tennessee (11), and Virginia (2).

Helene is the deadliest US hurricane since Katrina in 2005. Over 200 people remain missing in North Carolina, where 40,000 have applied for disaster assistance. FEMA has distributed $6.2 million in relief aid to affected residents.
