Hurricane Hilary, which killed three people in the western parts of Mexico, reached land in the USA. The hurricane caused strong winds and flooding across California. In Los Angeles, the largest city with a population of 4 million, 25,000 houses could not be supplied with electricity as power lines were damaged by trees that were knocked down by the strong winds. Roads, vehicles, and shops were flooded, and many schools were closed.
The Los Angeles National Weather Service said that heavy rain warnings for the cities of Los Angeles, Glendale and Santa Clarita will last until 3:00 a.m. local time.
