A volcano on the Reykjanes Peninsula in Iceland erupted again, marking its ninth eruption since December 2023. The Icelandic Meteorological Office reported that the Sundhnukur crater near Grindavik began spewing lava and smoke early in the morning, forming a fissure up to 1,000 meters long. Authorities confirmed there is no immediate threat, and flights at Reykjavik’s Keflavik Airport remain unaffected. Iceland, located between the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates, has 32 active volcanoes and drew 2.3 million tourists in 2024.
