US Congresswoman Ilhan Omar was attacked with a syringe during a speech at Minneapolis City Hall. A man in the audience sprayed an unknown liquid at Omar while she was speaking. Police immediately detained the suspect, identified as 55-year-old Anthony James Kazmierczak.
Omar was not injured and continued her speech. A forensic examination was carried out at the scene. In a social media statement, Omar said, “I’m ok. I’m a survivor so this small agitator isn’t going to intimidate me from doing my work. I don’t let bullies win.”
Omar is one of the first Muslim women elected to the US Congress and the first Somali-American and African-born lawmaker to serve in Congress.
