India has blocked 90% of the Chenab River’s water flow to Pakistan by closing the Baglihar Dam, following its suspension of the Indus Water Treaty after a deadly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir.
The move has raised fears of a water crisis in Pakistan, with reports that India may also block the Jhelum River. Tensions escalated after 26 civilians were killed in an attack in Pahalgam, which India blames on Pakistan—an accusation Islamabad denies. Pakistan has warned of possible Indian military action, citing “credible intelligence.”
