Hundreds of people, who performed Friday prayers at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka, carried out a protest against the hijab ban imposed on Muslim students at schools in the Karnataka state of India. Protesters stated that the headscarf is a right of Muslim women and emphasized that the Indian government wants to deprive students from their rights with the hijab ban.
“The hijab is the right of Muslims. The hijab is the identity of Muslim women. As Muslims, we will not allow anyone to interfere with our religious practices,” Maulana Zakir Hossain, who participated in the protest, said.
Also in the protest, a teacher named Abdul Halim said, “The hijab is the right of Muslim women. The hijab is our freedom and right that no one can take it from us. We will tell the Indian government to reverse their decision as soon as possible.”
