A female trainee doctor working at a public hospital in the state of West Bengal, India, was sexually assaulted and killed while sleeping in a seminar room after working 36 hours last Friday. Following the violent incident, calls were made on social media and thousands of people from all walks of life marched across the state carrying candles and torches and chanting, “We want justice.”
A hospital employee was arrested and the case was transferred from the local police to the Federal Central Bureau of Investigation as accusations that the attack was covered up and neglected intensified.
