Israel Returns Bodies of 88 Palestinians

The Palestinian Ministry of Health announced that Israel has returned the bodies of 88 Palestinians it killed in an attack on the Gaza Strip yesterday in a container. The ministry, which requested information on the identities of the bodies sent from the Israeli-controlled area and where they were killed, stated that burials will not be carried out until this information is disclosed.

“They must act in accordance with international humanitarian law and in a way that protects the honor of the martyrs and their families,” said Ismail Al-Thawabta, the spokesman for the government in the Gaza Strip.

“We reiterate that all families have the right to hear from their loved ones and to bury them respectfully and in accordance with their traditions,” the International Committee of the Red Cross said.

Israeli Forces Seize Gaza-Bound Aid Ship, Detain Activists

Israeli forces raided the Madleen, a humanitarian aid ship from the Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC), in international waters en route to Gaza. The FFC reported that 12 activists, including climate activist Greta Thunberg, actor Liam Cunningham, EU lawmaker Rima Hassan, and two Turkish nationals, were detained and taken to Israel.

The ship, which departed from Sicily on June 1, aimed to break the blockade on Gaza. According to the FFC, Israeli forces used drones, tear gas, and signal jammers during the raid. Video footage showed the activists with hands raised as Israeli troops boarded.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry mocked the mission, calling the vessel a “celebrity selfie yacht” and claiming it carried minimal aid. It said all detainees were unharmed and would be deported.

The Madleen was towed to the Israeli port of Ashdod. The raid comes amid continued Israeli military operations in Gaza and increasing international criticism over humanitarian access.
