Qatar-based Al Jazeera news channel reporter Shireen Abu Akleh, was wounded by the fire opened by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank on May 11 and died in the hospital she was taken to. On May 13, the Israeli police blocked the passage of vehicles and pedestrians on the roads where the Abu Akleh’s funeral convoy passed, and they attacked the convoy carrying the coffin wrapped in the Palestinian flag. The Israeli police intervened in the convoy with tear gas, and also prevented the youth hanging Abu Akleh’s photo on the outer walls of the church.

Student-led protesters in Serbia have blockaded state broadcasters RTS and RTV, demanding management overhaul or complete shutdown due to alleged biased reporting. Tents were set up outside buildings in Belgrade and Novi Sad, blocking entry and disrupting broadcasts. RTS called the blockade illegal, while RTV’s head labeled it “terrorism.”
The protests follow a deadly building collapse in Novi Sad that killed 15 people in November 2024. Despite government reshuffles and resignations, demonstrations persist. President Aleksandar Vucic dismissed the unrest as a failed “color revolution.”
