Despite Istanbul’s dams being over 50 percent full, Meteorological Engineer Dr. Güven Özdemir emphasized the need for continued water conservation. Özdemir highlighted that the dams’ total capacity of 868 million cubic meters falls short of meeting Istanbul’s annual water demand, which exceeds 1.2 billion cubic meters. Urging the halt of population growth and the construction of new dams, Özdemir stressed the necessity of proactive measures to address Istanbul’s water needs.
