Italy declared a state of emergency for six months across the country in order to combat the extraordinary illegal immigration attempts on the Mediterranean coast. During the six months, it is aimed to provide a more effective and timely solution on the management of irregular migrants and their accommodation on national territory.
Since last Friday, Italian Coast Guard teams have rescued over 2,700 irregular migrants.
