The U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) strongest telescope James Webb Space Telescope took its final shape after completing unfolding its giant mirrors. The moment of unfolding of the Webb’s last panel was broadcast live by NASA. Meanwhile, Webb took the shape of a honeycomb with unfolding of its last panel. “2 weeks after launch, Webb has hit its next biggest milestone: the mirrors have completed deployment and the next-generation telescope has taken its final form,” NASA said in the statement they posted on the social media.
On the other hand, Webb was sent into space with Ariane 5 rocket from Europe’s Spaceport at the Guiana Space Center in Kourou, French Guiana on December 25 last year. Meanwhile, Webb is being considered as the world’s most powerful and complex space observatory. Also designed as the replacement for the aging Hubble Space Telescope, James Webb Space Telescope is named after James Edwin Webb, the former Administrator of NASA. However, NASA was expecting to launch the Webb in 2018 at first, but launch had delayed due to technical difficulties and then the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.
