Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who was assassinated and died while giving an election speech in Nara, Japan, was bid farewell with an official ceremony in the capital, Tokyo. Before the ceremony, which was held at the Budokan Arena in the capital, 20,000 police officers were deployed, and those opposed to holding an official funeral for Abe staged a protest near the ceremony site. Long lines of people formed at the entrance to Kudanzaka Park, near the ceremonial ground, which was open to civilians who wanted to pay their respects to Abe by leaving flowers.
