Japanese Author Collects 3,000 Needle Laces in 29 Years in Türkiye

Japanese author and fancywork researcher Ikumi Nonaka, who settled in Antalya in 1995 and has been conducting research on Turkish handicrafts for 29 years, has collected a total of 3,000 needle laces.

“I am curious about carpet and rug motifs, needle laces, knitted socks, and anything that is handcrafted. We love craftsmanship in Japan. I was amazed when I saw that fancywork was fine, delicate, and beautiful in Türkiye. Then I slowly started doing research. I have been involved in handicrafts for about 30 years. I started by examining carpets, rugs and socks. I have been collecting needle laces for 25 years. I have visited many provinces; there are a few of them I have not been to,” said Nonaka.
