Japan’s Epsilon S Rocket Engine Explodes

The Epsilon S rocket engine developed by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) exploded during a test at the Noshiro Rocket Test Center, triggering a fire that was brought under control after two hours. No injuries were reported and an investigation is underway. The Epsilon series, initiated in 2007, is designed to boost efficiency and reduce launch costs. Five previous Epsilon models had been successfully launched, but two recent incidents, including this explosion and a failed H3 launch, have posed challenges to JAXA’s operations.
