The room used as an office by Mehmet Çetin, President Erdoğan’s martyred bodyguard, during the attempted coup on July 15, 2016, remains untouched at the Turban Grand Yazıcı Hotel in Marmaris. Despite seven years passing, two rooms, bearing the scars of 120 bullet holes, have been preserved by the hotel management as reminders of the failed coup attempt by a faction of the Turkish Armed Forces linked to FETÖ/PDY.
The assassination attempt resulted in a violent confrontation, leading to the martyrdom of two police officers. The perpetrators were apprehended after a 17-day manhunt.
