The people of the Turkish city Kahramanmaraş, who experienced a heartbreaking devastation due to two severe earthquakes on February 6, 2023, celebrated the 104th anniversary of the recapture of their city from the French and Armenian forces in Turkish War of Independence 1919. The demonstrations started with the singing of the national anthem and continued with students reading poems and performing of a play called ‘The Epic of Independence’.
The drummer band at the celebrations refused to play drums to draw attention to the victims of the earthquake.
