Kazakh cellist Bagjan Oktyabr, known as his country’s cultural ambassador, enchanted audiences in Istanbul during his “Ruh Terapisi” world tour. Performing at the Harbiye Cemil Topuzlu Open Air Theater, he received a standing ovation for his renditions of music from popular Turkish TV series such as Aşk-ı Memnu, Kara Sevda, Yalı Çapkını, and Yaprak Dökümü.
Oktyabr, who learned Turkish through these series, also performed “Give Me Your Hands,” winning admiration for his warm stage presence. Turkish musician Gökhan Kırdar joined him on stage after years, performing Yerine Sevemem with Oktyabr’s cello accompaniment.
The evening ended on an emotional note when Oktyabr shared the stage with his father, recalling how he bought him his first cello despite financial hardship.
