A person attacked people with a knife at around 21:45 local time at a festival held to celebrate the 650th anniversary of the founding of the city in Solingen, a city in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, killing 3 of them and injuring 8 more.
The German police launched a large-scale operation to find the attacker, who fled after the incident, and called on the public to stay home and stay away from the city center.
The 3-day festival has been canceled.
