Kosovo is preparing to celebrate the 15th anniversary of its independence. In the country where February 17 was declared a public holiday, celebrations will be held with ceremonies this year as well.
The flags of the nations that recognized Kosovo’s independence were displayed on the streets of Prizren, where the majority of Kosovar Turks live. With the participation of Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani and Prime Minister Albin Kurti, the celebrations will begin tomorrow with a military parade in the capital, Pristina. Afterwards, it will continue with activities in which various folklore shows are held in each city.
On the other hand, as Kosovo prepares to celebrate its independence, its citizens complain of the economic situation and unemployment. In the country where unemployment is over 60%, young people find the solution by going to European countries. The average pensioner in Kosovo, where the healthcare system has nearly failed, receives a monthly financial support of 100 euros.
In 2008, Kosovo unilaterally declared its independence from Serbia, and 117 nations, including Türkiye, officially recognized it.
