Krasheninnikov Volcano Erupts After 600 Years Following Russia Quake

The Krasheninnikov Volcano on Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula erupted overnight for the first time in 600 years, following an 8.8 magnitude earthquake that shook the region.

Olga Girina of the Kamchatka Volcanic Eruption Response Team confirmed the rare eruption, likely triggered by the quake that also awakened the active Klyuchevskoy Volcano.

Russia’s Emergency Ministry reported an ash cloud rising 6,000 meters into the air and drifting toward the Pacific Ocean, posing no threat to settlements. The eruption was issued an aviation code orange, warning of potential flight hazards
