Barcelona’s iconic La Sagrada Família has become the world’s tallest church after a new section was added to its central tower, reaching 162.91 meters. The basilica, designed by famed architect Antoni Gaudí, surpassed Germany’s Ulmer Münster Cathedral, which held the record since 1890.
Construction of La Sagrada Família began in 1882 and continues more than a century later, funded by visitors and private donors. The project is expected to be completed in 2026, marking the 100th anniversary of Gaudí’s death.
